Installing Fonts into Windows®

Minimum System Requirements
Windows Vista, XP or Windows 2000

Note: Ascender can only provide customer support only to users of current operating systems and applications. If you have an older system you may need additional software, such as Adobe Type Manager (ATM), or may not have access to extended features of the font.

Uncompressing a font
All fonts downloaded from Ascender are in a compressed format. You first need to uncompress the files before installation. Simply double-click on the .zip file to uncompress it. We recommend that you save the uncompressed file to your desktop. If this does not work you will need to get a free utility to unzip the files, such as WinZip or StuffItExpander.

Installing OpenType fonts into Windows XP & Vista

To install OpenType (TrueType or PostScript ) fonts you will simply drag and drop your new fonts into the Windows Fonts folder. You will want to open two folders: the folder with your new fonts and the system fonts folder. Note: before installing any new fonts you should close all open applications.

1a. In Windows XP, from the Start menu select Control Panel.
1b. In Windows Vista, from the Start menu select Control Panel.

2a. In Windows XP, select Appearances and Themes, then select Fonts (under "See Also" ).
2b. In Windows Vista, select Appearances and Personalization, then select Fonts.

3. Open the folder containing the TrueType or OpenType font files you have downloaded. Make sure you can see both the Fonts folder and the folder with your new TrueType or OpenType fonts.

4. Select your new font files, then drag them to the Fonts folder.
NOTE: if you receive an error message it could be because the fonts have not been uncompressed. First drag the font from its folder to the desktop, and then drag it to the system Fonts folder.

5. You have successfully copied your fonts into the Windows system and they are now installed.

Note: you can also install the fonts by selecting File > Install New Font from the Fonts Folder. This opens the Add Fonts screen.

In the Add Fonts screen you need to navigate to the location where you saved the downloaded or unzipped fonts. If you have trouble locating your downloaded fonts we suggest you copy them to the C: hard disk. This will make it easier to find them in the Add Fonts screen. When you see your font in the List of Fonts box, click the font you want to add (or Control-click to select more than one), and Click OK.
