JOSHUA HADLEY has been immersed in computer technology from an early age. Intrigued by early computer games (Pong!), he began experimenting with programming at age 12 on the cutting-edge Apple II with BASIC. In high school, he discovered the joys of the Atari 400 system.
Also while in high school, he became interested in the Graphic Arts, taking over many of the school's small printing jobs and becoming a teacher's assistant for the Graphic Arts and Photography program. He continued this line of study at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the School of Printing Management and Sciences, where he developed a love of typography. His set of Native American-themed Blackfoot border fonts was created as part of a senior project there.

His professional life has been centered around font tool development and related work to make consistently high quality fonts. He's frequently overheard quoting the OpenType specification, a document with which he's become intimately familiar over the years.
To balance life in the world of high-tech web-enabled microwave toaster oven fax machines, he "unplugs" by playing a large upright acoustic bass and singing in a Bluegrass band, The Circle R Boys. He also spends a fair amount of time outside on his bike as a USCF Category 4 racer for Webcor/Alto Velo.
